the story:

in 2010 studio & partners was invited to participate in a competition for a new lighting concept to illuminate hamburg’s main shopping street, the mönckebergstrasse.

main objective was not only the design of a state of the art led based design – entire light fixture energy consumption is equivalent to a 250 w incandescent bulb – for a new streetlight fixture that allows for functional as well as event based lighting of the urban space, but also the branding and differentiation of this magnificent shopping location with stunning historic architecture.

s&p’s winning entry focussed on providing a simple and iconic light fixture, that is equipped with different LED spots on its transparent rim to enable the most appropriate illumination of the streets spectacular building facades.

by shedding light, not only on the streets surface, but by highlighting the unique urban landscape the mönckebergstrasse shines in a new light and offers a unique shopping experience to its visitors.
